Yesterday’s post about CakePHP and Zend Framework seems to have caused a few ripples in CakePHP circles. I just want to make it clear that I won’t be switching from Cake over the changes to the team, I was just using the opportunity to check out what’s happened in the time since I last looked at ZF.
The first thing I found is that, for the kind of work I do, the benefits of a Rapid Application Development framework overcome the flexibility of something more module like Zend.
The second, more personal, reason is the reaction of other developers and the core team. The passion within the core team is one of the key aspects that can make or break an open source project, so it’s great to see the team taking time out to reassure guys like me.
